Collaborative Portrait

This is a great activity for team bonding and having a laugh together. The participants collaboratively make drawings of each other’s faces and the artwork can be used later on to decorate the team area. Ideal for a group of between 5-8 people and split the group into multiple teams if larger than this.

Steps

  1.  Leave a number of multicoloured pens in the middle of the table, and hand out a piece of paper per person.
  2. Decide on the number of facial features and write them up on the whiteboard. Ideally one feature less than participants, so for example for a group of 6:
    • Shape of head
    • Nose
    • Eyes and eyebrows
    • Hair
    • Mouth
  3. Ask everyone to write down the name of the person to their left.
  4. Give everyone 1 minute to draw the first feature of the person to their left (eg face shape).
  5. Once everyone has drawn the first feature, everyone hands the artwork over to their right.
  6. Ask everyone to draw the second feature for the person in the portrait (eg their nose).
  7. Continue circulating the drawing to the right until the portrait is complete.

Bonus tip

If you have multiple teams, you can cover up the names written on drawings, and make it a competition between the teams to guess ‘who is who’.

After the session, pin the portraits up in your team area. It can work as additional artwork and you can again cover up the names, let workmates guess ‘who is who’ and gain even more laughs out of the creative work.
