L for Learning
Play boosts our engagement, curiosity, and ability to soak up new information. Even way back in the day, philosophers like Socrates and Plato were big fans of creative play and curiosity as keys to learning. It’s easy to see how kids learn through play, like pretending to shop and figuring out how to interact in a store. But somehow, we adults tend to overlook this for ourselves.
The truth is, we reap plenty of benefits from learning through play. Take simulation games, for example. These aren’t just for future pilots in physical simulators; they’re great for breaking down complex concepts and processes. By using analogies and playing through different scenarios, we can grasp tricky ideas from new angles and absorb information in a fun and engaging way.
Plus, learning through play has a unique way of making things stick. When we play, our brains release those wonderful neurotransmitters that help store and recall what we’ve learned. And that’s often the whole point of learning, right?
In short, play helps us learn quicker and remember longer. So, let’s embrace our inner child and make learning a playful adventure!
